This forum is for the posting of techniques and ideas you come across that aren’t included in the course. The purpose is to expand choices within the model you’ve been trained in, and to help the model to evolve. SO,WHEN YOU POST A TECHNIQUE, STATE WHETHER IT’S A CONTEXT, STRUCTURE, PROCESS, OR CONSEQUENCE INTERVENTION, AND ADD ANY IDEAS YOU HAVE ABOUT ITS.If you’re not sure how it fits then ask it as a question, that way the debate will help to strengthen our model. As a rule of thumb, IF YOU’RE STILL READING A TECHNIQUE TO A CLIENT, YOU’RE PROBABLY NOT READY TO LOOK FOR OTHER ALTERNATIVES FROM OUTSIDE YOUR TRAINING. The problem probably resides in your lack of familiarity, not in the effectiveness of the technique. Work on that first. What I’d also encourage is to LOOK FOR THE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THE NEW TECHNIQUE OR IDEA AND THINGS YOU’RE ALREADY FAMILIAR WITH. It is common to look for new tricks when you’re stuck with a client, but nearly all techniques emerge from a few common principles. Once you know them and can use them flexibly, you become the trick. What I’d like is for us all to get better and better at identifying the core elements that make people change their minds, hopefully this forum can helps us move towards that. Also, feel free to post about good websites you’ve found that are relevant to therapy, good trainings you’ve been on and good forums worth reading.
